Responding to God's love, we
faithfully...
Witness and Serve
Feeding the hungry
Our Helping Hands project provides food on a weekly basis for families
in dire need, as identified by Family and Children's Services.
Each week, we collect canned, boxed, or packaged goods. Thanks to
fundraisers and donations, the Helping Hands team can also buy
perishables like fresh fruit, vegetables, milk, bread, and eggs to add
to deliveries for these families. In addition, we provide food jars from the fundraisers
to serve as door prizes at classes that help families learn how to buy and prepare
food more economically.
Caring for the poor
At Christmas, our "adopt-a-family" effort allows us to share
our blessings with needy families.
This means buying gifts as generously for these families as we do for
our own. Children, teens, and adults participate by purchasing,
wrapping, and delivering gifts. On Thanksgiving, Christmas, and
Easter, this project also provides these families with holiday meals.
Reaching out to those
in prison
Ascension sponsors a Christmas "angel tree" as part of
Project Hope, which provides gifts for children with a parent in prison.
For individuals leaving prison, we collect toiletries and supplies to
help them face the challenges of starting a new life.
Sheltering those
in need
We support Habitat for Humanity through a combined Lutheran effort
in the Tulsa area. Lutheran contributions are matched by Thrivent for Lutherans, a company that contributes toward
purchase of a home site and materials. Lutheran congregations, in
turn, donate funds and/or volunteer hours. The result:
three Habitat homes sponsored and built by Tulsa Lutherans.
Our congregation has
participated in the Habitat project with financial contributions and
with meals for construction volunteers, provided by
our Confirmands, Women of Ascension, and individual families. |
